Back to School

MY GOALS

Going back to school was a BIG deal for me. I had been a stay at home mom for 10 yrs and a little bit out of practice for brain work. Initially I thought it would be good for my confidence and it has.  I am much more willing to try new things and put myself out there.

With this new found confidence I got to work figuring out what I wanted to be when I grew up. I decided to take the Personality/skills test that SLCC offers. It cost a little bit, but I figured it was worth it. I made an appointment with a councelor to go over the results of my test. All of my scores pointed toward a possibilty in the Radiology field. The more I thought about Radiology the more I got excited.

That is how I got here. The guidelines for the Rad/Tech program changed right as I decided to work towards it. No more waiting lists. Entry to the program is based on grades, volunteer work, a journal recording your volunteer work and passing the HESSE test. Only 25 applicants get through each year.

My goals are to keep my grades up. I have found that Biology is much more interesting than Math. I have hope that I will continue that feeling with Anatomy. I plan to find some volunteer work over the summer. We are only required to have 20 hrs, but I hope to get 40 hrs. I have to take a Communications course as well. I am very nervous for this class. There is some 'in front of the class' time. I have never been good with speaking in front of people, but I know I am more confident than ever. The one thing that might be out of my control is getting into the Intro to Radiology course. This course is required in order to apply to the program. There are only 2 classes  and they usually fill up on the first day of registration. After spring semester I can register on the second day. I really hope I can get in for the summer semester.

By this time next year my goal is to be on my way to starting the RAD/TECH program. I will have been accepted an on my way to completing the course and then finding a job.
